PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The true spirit of Christmas is giving back for one local veterans group.

The Ladies Auxiliary of AMVETS Post 47 in Panama City Beach raised thousands of dollars for charities this holiday season. On Monday night, they added one more charity to their list; ‘Food 4 Kids’.

“We work all throughout the year. We say our Ladies AMVETS, Ladies Auxiliary is that we live to give, and we enjoy what we do,” said 1st Vice President Debra Bergstrom.

For the month of December the members raised nearly $3,000. With Christmas around the corner, the generous donation of $500 to ‘Food 4 Kids’ makes it extra special.

“Everyday’s a little bit like Christmas whenever we go to pick up food and to just see what has been donated to us,” said Food 4 Kids Executive Director Ric Brigman.

“Just putting the sustenance of life into someone’s hands is a very spiritual thing, and we don’t take it lightly. And we’re just very grateful to have been chosen to do this,” added Food 4 Kids VP & Outreach Coordinator, Bobbie Brigman.

The ladies say they give wherever there is a need. “We focus on veterans but we do some overlap,” said Bergstrom.

Members say this is the first of many checks toward ‘Food for Kids. “We’ll most likely continue to do so in future years,” added Bergstrom.

The Ladies Auxiliary’s charity list includes the Woodlawn Methodist Church’s food pantry, and Bethal Village of the Rescue Mission.
