AMVETS: Trump’s VA Sec. Nominee Offers Agency Needed Stability
AMVETS National Headquarters, May 18, 2018 – President Trump’s decision to nominate current Acting Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie as permanent head of the VA is a positive step toward ensuring the organizational stability it takes for VA to best serve veterans, AMVETS leadership said today.
“Robert Wilkie has clearly been working hard to learn the many extremely complicated and most pressing issues facing veterans right now,” said AMVETS Executive Director Joe Chenelly. “His early work has earned him the confidence of AMVETS, and we’re looking forward to a thorough but hopefully speedy confirmation process.”
Since his appointment as acting secretary in March, Wilkie has reached out to veterans service organizations and worked closely with the White House and Congress to move forward on the VA Mission Act, which passed the House Wednesday and is set for a Senate vote before Memorial Day.
AMVETS is the nation’s most inclusive Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization. It is open to and fights for all veterans who served honorably, including reservists & guardsmen. AMVETS has been a nonpartisan advocate for veterans and their families for more than 70 years. amvets.org
