AMVETS National Headquarters, May 22, 2018 – The White House Monday received a letter from AMVETS National Commander Marion Polk urging the president to let the deputy Veterans Affairs secretary lead the agency until the current acting secretary is officially confirmed and sworn in. President Trump last week identified Robert Wilkie, the current acting secretary of Veterans Affairs, as his choice to lead the agency as permanent secretary. In the time between Wilkie being officially nominated and officially confirmed by the Senate, the role of acting secretary should rightly belong to Deputy VA Secretary Thomas Bowman, a retired Marine colonel and experienced public servant, the letter explains.

AMVETS is the nation’s most inclusive Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization. It is open to and fights for all veterans who served honorably, including reservists & guardsmen. AMVETS has been a nonpartisan advocate for veterans and their families for more than 70 years. amvets.org
