AMVETS National Headquarters, November 14, 2018 – American Veterans’ (AMVETS) national commander today responded to recent reports of neglect, disregard and substandard care at an unacceptable number of the VA nursing homes that collectively service 46,000 of the nation’s most vulnerable veterans.

“The VA’s new list of underperforming nursing homes is alarming enough, but the stories being reported about the treatment of some individual veterans at these facilities are nothing short of horrifying,” said AMVETS National Commander Rege Riley. “Secretary Wilkie may not have been with the VA when problems with its nursing homes first came to light, but he’s presiding over them now, and he needs to take swift and transparent action to fix this.”

AMVETS is the nation’s most inclusive Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization. It is open to and fights for all veterans who served honorably, including reservists & guardsmen. AMVETS has been a nonpartisan advocate for veterans and their families for more than 70 years. amvets.org
