SCHOLARSHIPS
AMVETS annually awards scholarships to veterans/active military, their sons, daughters or grandchildren. A son, daughter or grandchild of a deceased veteran is also eligible. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence and financial need, the scholarships go to deserving high school seniors, high school JROTC students and veterans pursuing a higher education.
The following scholarships, funded by the AMVETS National Service Foundation, are awarded annually:
Dr. Aurelio M. Caccomo Family Foundation Memorial Scholarship
One $3,000 scholarship for veterans/guardsman/reservists (PDF) will be awarded nationwide per year, for the duration of the grant, without regard for district boundaries. The scholarship is for veterans, including members of the National Guard and Reserves, seeking new skills in order to be more competitive in the job market. The one time $3,000 award may be used for undergraduate courses, accredited degree or certificate programs, including online schools.
2008 Scholarship Winners
University of Phoenix
The following scholarship is funded by the University of Phoenix and is a joint venture to help veterans; active duty service members, reservists, Guardsmen and family members obtain a high-quality online education.
- Fifty scholarships will be awarded this year. Each scholarship will consist of a $4,000 non-cash credit to the University of Phoenix.

Devry University
AMVETS and Devry University have teamed up to offer veterans and their families an opportunity to pursue or enhance their college education through tuition scholarships valued at up to $9,000 each towards an undergraduate or graduate degree at DeVry University or it's Keller Graduate School of Management.
Ten scholarships will be awarded each semester. (Scholarships for online or any of their institutions within the United States)
Those eligible are Veterans, their immediate family members (i.e. spouse, natural and adopted children) and the natural and adopted children of member of the active military, including Guard and Reserve.
Active duty are not eligible because DeVry has a more attractive discounted program for them and their spouses.

Kaplan University
Kaplan University, a leading provider of online higher education, signed an agreement with AMVETS to provide selected veterans and their families with tuition vouchers totaling more than $7,000 over the course of an online bachelor’s degree program.
Eligible veterans and their family members enrolled in online Kaplan associate’s degree programs may earn up to $3,600 in tuition vouchers over the course of their degree program, and those enrolled in online bachelor’s degree programs can earn up to $7,200. Kaplan will award up to 100 scholarships per calendar year for its online degree programs.
Kaplan University, based in Davenport, Iowa, is regionally accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). The University offers more than 100 academic programs and currently serves more than 38,000 online and on-ground students, with support centers in Fort Lauderdale, Chicago and Phoenix. Scholarship applications may be downloaded (see links above) or requested by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the AMVETS National Programs Department. Completed applications sent to the National Programs Department must be postmarked no later than April 15. Winners will be notified and names will be listed at this link no later than May 31. Due to the large number of entries (300-plus annually), only the winners will be notified.
