AMVETS
Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse (AADAA)
The Ted Leszkiewicz AMVETS Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse program encourages
local AMVETS posts to network with local schools and youth groups
who are looking for resources to help educate youth about drug
and alcohol abuse.
To assist your post in this program the National Programs Department
administers an annual Essay/Poem and Poster Contest that is age
appropriate and grade specific. Posts and departments are encouraged
to conduct contests at the local and state levels and then submit
their winning entries to the National Department by 1 July. All
national winners will receive a Certificate of Participation signed
by the national commander and Visa Gift Cards. The 1st place winners
also receive a plaque. Contest entry
forms (PDF files) may be downloaded
here.
Posts, particularly those having post homes, are also encouraged
to serve as a resource for local community groups seeking facilities
to conduct drug education meetings and/or workshops for adults.
Learn about AMVETS’ involvement in the Prevention
Through Service Alliance (PTSA), a network formed by a variety of community-based
organizations with the overall purpose of helping young people
to lead safe and healthy lifestyles and to avoid destructive behavior.
