AMVETS SELECTS 2010 NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
AMVETS continues to help fund educational opportunities for veterans and their families
WASHINGTON, June 7, 2010—AMVETS, one of the nation’s largest and most inclusive veterans service organizations, announced the 2010 winners of its national scholarships, available to children and grandchildren of veterans currently in their senior year of high school, veterans seeking to further their personal education, and JROTC cadets seeking higher education.
Graduating high school seniors selected to receive four-year undergraduate scholarships of $4,000 are Briana Franklin of San Antonio, Texas; Sandra Gramz of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; Alexandria Hankins of Pensacola, Fla.; Geoffrey Plourde of Eureka, Calif.; Atasia Richardson of New York, N.Y.; and Danielle Sebasovich of Lock Haven, Pa.
Graduating high school senior Kristopher Sandifer of Charlotte, N.C., was selected as the $1,000 scholarship winner of the JROTC scholarship.
Veterans selected to receive four-year undergraduate scholarships of $4,000 are Dennis Downard of Arnold, Pa.; Erik Iverson of Berkeley, Calif.; and Paul Jones of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Veterans James Allen of Port Angeles, Wash.; and Amanda Kloepfer of Cherry Valley, Ill. were each selected to receive a $3,000 Memorial Scholarship in the name of Dr. Aurelio M. Caccomo.
The winners were selected on the basis of academic excellence and financial need. Since its inception in the 1950s, the AMVETS National Scholarship Program has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to veterans and graduating high school students who are sons, daughters or grandchildren of American veterans.
