Novavax is seeking a full-time IT Support Engineer III to meet the Company's end user support requirements and to support and manage its laptop and desktop computer fleet. The IT Support Engineer III reports to the Director, IT Infrastructure & Operations, as part of the IT Service Desk.

The IT Support Engineer III role provides end user support and system support and maintenance within the organization's desktop computing environment. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment (including but not limited to laptops, desktops, monitors, printers, and peripherals) to ensure optimal workstation performance and reliability. He or she will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by phone, or via remote access) with wired and wireless network connectivity, collaboration hardware and software, VPN connectivity, etc. This position provides daily end user support and acts as an escalation point for more junior technicians and engineers.

The IT Support Engineer III will work with laboratory personnel to troubleshoot, maintain, and protect data associated with lab computers performing specific scientific functions. He or she will collaborate with existing vendors to evaluate the new desktop and desktop management technology and make recommendations to management on using that technology. He or she will monitor the performance of the company's desktop infrastructure and make suggestions for improving efficiency. Among day-to-day responsibilities are setting up laptop and desktop computers and peripherals, testing network connections, installing and testing desktop software applications and internet browsers, and training end users on the use of computer hardware and software.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to hardware and application support queries and issues reported to the IT Service Desk.
  • Set up A/V and collaboration tools for meetings and presentations.
  • Provide user and email account administration, i.e., password resets, account moves, adds, and changes in Active Directory and Office 365.
  • Use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot problems associated with network connectivity and workstation hardware/software.
  • Use imaging tools and methodologies to load, copy, and customize operating system configurations for deployment.
  • Track hardware and software for end user equipment as well as laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarize end users on basic software, hardware, and peripheral device operation.
  • Take ticket ownership and responsibility of queries, issues, and problems assigned to the IT Service Desk.
  • Work with vendor support contacts to resolve technical issues within the desktop environment.
  • Escalate issues when required in order to resolve issues as quickly as possible.
  • Suggest and assist with implementation of modifications and additions to desktop standards and images.
  • Install and support Microsoft Office and Windows applications.
  • Perform moves, adds, and changes in an IP telephony system.


Minimum Requirements: 

  • Five years of experience in supporting end users and workstations, preferably in the biotech/pharma industry and preferably with experience supporting lab hardware and software.
  • Expertise in computer imaging, image updating, and image deployment using WDS, Symantec Ghost, Cronos, or similar enterprise computer imaging solution.
  • BA/BS is preferred. Professional certification(s) is desirable but not required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate under pressure.
  • A professional and courteous verbal and written communications style is a key success factor.
  • Must have well developed problem-solving skills.
  • Must be adept at learning and becoming quickly proficient at end user and desktop management software applications; the candidate must be skilled in the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Must be proficient in managing and diagnosing issues with standard office equipment such as copiers and scanners and have expertise in electronic file structures as well as SharePoint.
  • Must have expertise supporting meetings with A/V equipment and collaboration technology such as Skype and WebEx.
