Description of Position:

This is professional work in the statewide radiation machine regulatory section overseeing the enforcement of radiation machine registration rules and regulations.  Exceptional communication skills are necessary to collect information, analyze data, and make determinations and initiate corrective actions regarding radiation machine investigations and enforcement.  Duties include:


  • Reviews, evaluates and processes inspection violation corrections. Evaluates corrective actions provided by registrant for compliance with program rules and regulations and takes needed action.  Prepares and issues escalated enforcement actions and administrative actions (including administrative fines and administrative complaints).  Tracks all corrective and enforcement actions to completion.


  • Coordinates the assignment, performance, tracking and completion of radiation machine investigations to assure compliance with program rules and regulations.  Prepares and issues investigation report and findings.  Tracks corrective actions to completion.


  • Performs investigations into the administration of radiation doses from therapeutic radiation machines in potential violation of program rules and regulations.  Coordinates the assignment with other bureau and agency functions as appropriate. Prepares and issues investigation report and findings.  Prepares administrative complaints.  Tracks administrative actions to completion.


  • Assists section administrator in identifying and researching emerging techniques, technologies, and hardware used in the production of ionizing radiation and proposes responses to such developments.


  • Serves as radiation technical advisor when answering radiation workers and public concerns.  Serves on committees when requested to further radiation research issues.


  • Assist the environmental administrator by providing technical, scientific and professional guidance to include presentations at conferences, meetings and trainings.  Investigate special areas and report unusual findings to the environmental administrator.


Minimum Qualifications, KSAs, and/or other Specific Information:


Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of radiation.


Special Notes or additional information (not required, but may be preferred):


Available on a 24 hour-a-day basis for response to radiation emergencies.  Perform duties as a member of the State Radiation Emergency Response Team.  Must be able to lift 60 pounds of equipment.  Must have a valid Florida driver's license.  Upon qualification, as determined by supervisor, will serve as an on-call duty officer as scheduled by a duty roster.


Must receive a minimum score of 70% on each written exam of the required core training modules and must attend all required core training courses designated in the training and qualification procedures.


The incumbent in the position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code.

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
