“Full-time, Day Shift”

The Florida Department of Management Services (DMS) is a customer-oriented agency responsible for managing various business-related functions throughout state government. Under the direction of Governor Rick Scott and DMS’ Executive Leadership Team, the agency oversees the real estate, procurement, human resources, group insurance, retirement, telecommunications, private prisons, and fleet and federal property assistance programs utilized throughout Florida’s state government. The Department of Management Services is relied upon to establish, maintain and improve the business processes used by state employees to create a better, not bigger government.  The Department of Management Services facilitates the delivery of these programs and services and provides tools and training to bolster the efficiency and effectiveness of the state’s workforce. Position responsibilities:

The employee in this position performs custodial duties in a state office building.  Duties may also include incidental labor duties as assigned.

General Custodial Duties

  • Incumbent cleans floors and vacuums carpeted areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling cans, dusts furniture, cleans walls, cleans light fixtures, cleans air vents, cleans doors, removes marks from walls, cleans base boards, and performs other related work as assigned by supervisor.

Restroom Custodial Duties:

  • Clean rest rooms using approved chemicals and methods.
  • Wash walls, partitions, mirrors, plumbing devices and receptacles.
  • Polish mirrors, and metal surfaces following established methods.
  • Restock expendable supplies as needed.
  • Strip, clean, by approved methods, floors in rest rooms.

Floor Covering Duties:

  • Cleans carpets using bonnet, shampoo, and extraction methods.
  • Clean equipment after each use following established methods.
  • Report to supervisor any mechanical or safety problems with the cleaning equipment.

Other Duties:

  • Clean all equipment, change belts, change bags, wipe down equipment, remove staples, paper clips and other metal debris from magnetic bar strips on equipment.
  • Report all safety or equipment problems to supervisor.
  • Responds to all requests and inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Keeps supervisor fully informed regarding work-related activities, relevant issues, upcoming events and potential problems.
  • Ensures requests for leave are submitted and approved in accordance with established rules and Division procedures.
  • Adheres to established safety procedures and practices in the work area.

Public Relations Duties:

  • Incumbent maintains good public relations with peers, supervision and tenants in the building.
  • The employee in this position shall obey all safety rules, shall exercise care in the course of employment, communicate to their supervisor and hazardous situations or conditions which may place individuals or others in jeopardy and shall assist and support other employees with safety responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and techniques.
  • A valid and applicable driver’s license.
  • Prolonged periods of time walking, standing, bending, climbing (ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles) and exerting up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
