Hello Members and Friends!
We are actively planning what we know will be an outstanding conference for you this year. In concert with our subordinate organizations, we are partnering as we never have before to make sure that your stay in Louisville is amazing and contains a multitude of opportunities to reconnect and plan for AMVETS success. The Department of Kentucky, in addition to planning for an outstanding Kentucky night event, are hard at work preparing for our arrival and ensuring the city is ready for us. In addition, we are compressing the conference and adding advance programming for our 2010 Symposium that we hope you will support and send attendees to.
While this convention will mark one of the final acts for me as I come to the end of my year as National Commander, I am fully committed to ensuring that we make this meeting a unique experience and I am joined by our entire staff in that effort. If you have any questions regarding the meeting, please contact Jim King at 301-683-4004 or Velma Hart at 301-683-4011. Both can also be reached by e-mail at jking@amvets.org or vhart@amvets.org. Important attachments, links and information appear below.
I look forward to seeing you in Louisville!
Veterans Serving Veterans,

National Commander Duane J. Miskulin |

2010 AMVETS Symposium for 21st Century Veterans |
|
| |
Galt House
Louisville, Kentucky
Monday, August 9 to Wednesday, August 11, 2010 |
|
OVERVIEW: Prior to the 66th AMVETS National Convention, AMVETS will bring more than 100 veterans of the 21st Century to discuss issues unique to today’s veterans’ community. The 2010 symposium will follow up on the 2006 AMVETS National Symposium for the Needs of Young Veterans, which generated a comprehensive report to guide AMVETS in meeting the needs of the nation’s newest veterans.
The 2010 symposium will focus on three major categories: Reintegration, Health Care and Benefits. Each category will be divided into breakout sessions, where small groups of veterans will have the opportunity to discuss issues such as suicide-prevention, employment, women’s health care delivery, and G.I. Bill benefit implementation.
Significant progress has been made since the 2006 symposium, and the 2010 symposium will document where progress has been made, identify continued shortfalls, and discuss developing issues.
