AMVETS National Headquarters, July 23, 2018 – The Senate’s vote to confirm Robert Wilkie as Secretary of Veterans Affairs now offers the VA a chance to regain the organizational stability it takes to best serve veterans, AMVETS leadership announced today. “Since being named acting secretary in March, Robert Wilkie has reached out to veteran service organizations and worked closely with the White House to learn and address the challenging issues faced by the VA,” said AMVETS Executive Director Joe Chenelly. “His Senate confirmation today means that the nation’s 20 million veterans have regained a VA that has the consistency of leadership and vision that taking proper care of our nation’s veterans requires.”
“The VA is facing a number of challenging issues that are extremely important, pressing and complicated, such as implementing the VA Mission Act passed in May in a smart and responsible way to help curb the still alarming rate of veterans suicide and ensuring all veterans have fast and reliable access to the benefits and quality healthcare they’ve earned,” Chenelly said.
