AMVETS Riders Travel to Texas, Provide Aid for Harvey Victims

Miles Migs

The AMVETS Riders of Iowa, led by Rider’s President George Cummings and National Junior AMVETS President Courtney Cummings, made a trip to Dallas, Texas last week with donations for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

With the help of numerous AMVETS members, the Riders loaded a truck with one week’s worth of donated aid and made way to the AMVETS Department of Texas facility.

Along with the donations, the Riders were able to support with $2,600 in funds, which Cummings explained would be used in a unique manner.

“AMVETS Riders Post 23 and Department of AMVETS Texas helped us unload, fed us, and expressed their gratitude,” said Cummings. “Texas will be taking the items and monetary support to supply small town areas that haven’t been able to receive items as quickly as bigger cities like Houston. We’re very proud of the generosity showed to our fellow veterans in Texas. Thank you to Post 23 Riders Commander Bruce McElhaney and wife Debra McElhaney for helping us work with Texas Department and giving us a place to stay, hospitality was sure appreciated.”
